This beloved wet felting project became one of the most-loved texture studies in our community because the techniques go far beyond a single project. In this tutorial, Marie shows how wool, silk, bamboo, sari silk waste, neps, and textured inclusions can be layered together to create dimensional coastal textures, shimmering water effects, raised surface design, organic transitions, and artistic wet felted landscapes.

Along the way, we will explore wet felting textures while creating a gorgeous 2D beach scene. You will also learn:

How to use a resist window to control the shape and border of a wet felted picture.
How to build a level wool base and lightly pre-felt it before adding surface design.
How to layer greens, browns, sand tones, silk, bamboo, sari silk waste, hankies, and neps for organic beach and coastline textures.
How to add dimension under the surface with canes, prefelt, rustic felt, beads, or other felted inclusions.
How to make and attach silk-covered bobbles using small wool beads, wisps of fiber, and Margilan silk.
How to wet, press, rub, and felt around raised areas so the fiber hugs the texture instead of tenting over it.
How to recognize that the shimmer, crinkle, diffusion, shrinkage, and embedded fiber effects are unique to wet felting.
