Wet & Nuno Felting Scarf Kits
Wet felting a scarf is one of the very best projects for beginners and always great fun for experienced feltmakers as well. Nuno felting is a form of wet felting, however fabrics are incorporated into the making of the felt.
We have wet felt scarf kits that include our cobweb style scarf, which has a free video tutorial, and our nuno felting kits that will make a scarf or cowl, but can also be used to make a table runner, journal cover, pillow cover, etc.
What is Nuno Felting?
Nuno felting is a wet felting process that incorporates fabric...either as a base or an embellishment to create what we call nuno felt.
Polly Stirling is attributed with developing nuno felting as a way to create lightweight, drapable fabrics. The name is derived from the Japanese word for cloth, “nuno."
We love using silk, such as gauze, pongee, or margilan, and other open weave fabrics such as cheese cloth for nuno felt.
Just remember - When making nuno felt “When in doubt try it out,” by making a small test piece, and use room temperature water.
What supplies do I need to nuno felt?
The tools and supplies needed for nuno felting are few and easy to get.
Your nuno felting tool box should have: old towels, a water bucket, some fine mesh, thin plastic sheeting, a pool noodle, some fine bubble wrap, and a hard milled vegetable soap, like olive oil soap.
