 Do I Need a Needle Felting Pad?

Whether you are needle felting 2D or 3D, a needle felting pad is definitely a must-have tool; it is your “work surface”. You may use a foam pad, a wool pad, or even a brush. A firm, flat work surface is a must when needle felting. You want a surface that can take the impact of your felting needles without causing them to bend/ or break.

Your needle felting pad or mat should allow the felting needles to slightly poke through the surface or even bounce off the surface when working on it. Using a needle felting pad or mat also lessens the chance of poking yourself with your needle.

What is a Felting Brush For?

A felting brush mat is an alternative work surface for needle felting. The stiff bristles provide a resting place for your project, while the narrow structure of the bristles allows the needles to easily pass through. 

Brushes tend to be small work surfaces that are suited for smaller projects.
