Jacquard - Cyanotype Kit
Cyanotype is the “original” sun-printing process, one of the earliest photographic techniques and is a fun activity for any age!
The cyanotype process is great for photographers, mixed-media artists, printmakers, quilters, kids, and more. It is easy, forgiving, quick, magical, and fun!
Harness the power of the sun to make detailed prints from virtually any object that casts a shadow: tools, toys, plants, leaves, stones, sand, string, lace, etc.
Jacquard’s Cyanotype Kit makes sun printing easier than ever and includes everything you need to get started!
Fill each bottle with water to create Stock Solutions A & B, and then mix the two in equal parts to create the cyanotype sensitizer.
Coat the included Hahnemühle Platinum Rag Fine Art Paper with the sensitizer and, once dry, create prints by exposing to sunlight or UV (10-20 minutes, depending on conditions), using the included glass printing frame and objects or a
film negative to create an image.
After exposure, prints are processed in a tray of cool water and allowed to air dry.

How does Cyantope printing work? When the cyanotype fabric is exposed to sunlight, a chemical reaction occurs. It won’t reveal itself, until you put the fabric in water. Then it will instantly turn blue!
How do you make a print? Place objects on the fabric to block the light. Wherever the sunlight doesn’t touch, it will remain white and leave a photographic impression on the fabric (this is called a “photogram”).
To make prints of photographs, just print the photo onto transparent paper and place it on top of the fabric instead of an object.
You can even make prints from drawings by first drawing on a transparency—the possibilities are endless!
*Exposure time depends on conditions but is generally 3-10 minutes.
